Cox Furniture is a third-generation, family-owned southeastern North Carolina tradition. The business’ flagship location, a repurposed 140,000-square- foot tobacco warehouse, is a tribute to Columbus County’s agricultural heritage. The warehouse is conveniently located on US 701, less than a quarter of a mile from the interchange with US 74/76. Cox Furniture also has locations in Southport, Oak Island, Lumberton and North Myrtle Beach.
Jack Cox, whose family has been in Columbus County since the 19 th Century, started the business now known as Cox Warehouse Discount Furniture in 1987. Jack was not the only member of the Cox family in the furniture business: his brothers built furniture in a small, two- story building in Tabor City known as Cox Brothers Furniture.
When Jack passed away in 2002, the business took a brief hiatus as the Cox family pondered its future before re-opening with Jack’s son, Kyle, at the helm. Kyle began passing the torch to his son, Jonathan, in 2011, and Jonathan now runs the day-to- day operations.
